backstage hardware

being that my artwork is digitally based, my computer plays an pivotal roll, so it might be interesting to know a little about it. some of the key system specs are: amd athlon[tm]xp 2700+ 2.17 GHz processor on asus a7v8x motherboard, 1 Gig of RAM, 1 Terabyte of harddrive space, creative soundblaster audigy2 platinum soundcard, geforce4 ti4600 ultra deluxe graphics card, system runs on windows xp pro sp2. i built this computer back in 2002.

backstage software

another important piece behind my work is my software. while not even close to an extensive list of what i use, this should give an idea of some of the more key pieces of software behind my art. here is a brief list: adobe after effects 6.5, premiere pro 1.5, photoshop cs, illustrator cs, maxon cinema4d, fruityloops 3.4

backstage 'seeing color'

'seeing color' was constructed through the use of adobe illustrator and after effects 6.5. the elements used to construct the scene and characters were designed in illustrator and then assembled in after effects. a couple of interesting facts about this piece are: for each flower there are around 42 petals and in total there are over 23,000 blades of grass that make up the world the flower lives in.

backstage 'disassembled mind'

'disassembled mind' was created purely through the use of adobe illustrator and after effects 6.5, no 3d applications were used. this piece is a good example of how mathematics can play a key role in pretty much every field. in order to keep the proper revolution, orientation and spacing of each of the 280 dots on the turntable platter it was necessary to design and input equations into the animation of each turntable.

backstage '3rd vision'

an interesting tidbit about '3rd vision' is that this piece was created entirely within adobe after effects and all elements are purely computer generated with the exceptions of the image used for the world map, and the walking person which evolved out of a video clip i shot. another extra bit of information about this piece is that the music for '3rd vision' is one of the first pieces of music i wrote.

inspiration

the philosophies and beliefs in the world are also a great source of inspiration. the teachings of experience and thoughtful insight offer many opportunities for the development of art, and often the art itself can be a way to express philosophical ideas.

inspiration

dreams are also a great source for inspiration. sleep provides a situation when the brain is relaxed and interferes less with the generation of ideas, and as such this is an excellent time for works to be born.

inspiration

some of the best ideas come from the simple interactions with people i see everyday. sometimes through the discussion of ideas and the concious working towards the concept of a piece inpiration comes. there are other times when the simple actions of the person or a slight inflection in the way they say a word can trigger an entire piece. and sometimes the mere presence and energy of them can be more than adequate to inspire something.
